Another use for that pirate template…

DSC_0725

I picked up one of those $4 or $5 tees at Target and carefully seam rippered the pocket off. Then, I cut the Jolly Roger template out of freezer paper and used the same bleach method I did here, only this time I didn’t put it in Oxiclean (just water). Doesn’t look like that part is necessary….at least not for maximizing your wearing pleasure.

I'm so glad to hear that that Target pocket comes right off! I bought one to make a big brother shirt and was wondering how it would look, so thanks for the doing the experimenting for me! :o)

  7. Sew It To Me says:

Yay! I've been brainstorming ideas for my five year old son. My kids watch me sew (one boy, one girl) and most of it is for my little girl and then I feel bad for my boy. This pirate shirt will be my first project I am adding to my For Boys folder. Thanks!

    awesomeness.

  9. I've been trying to find plain toddler tees without a pocket for ages. It never occurred to me to take the dang pocket OFF! Duh. You're a genius.

i keep thinking about your blog. which is why i have come back (again). i am wishing i wasn't so dang busy and that i could make onesies for my twins, similar to these shirts you have made. except mine would say something like "twin A" and "twin B" or something twin-like. maybe if i keep on visiting your blog, i will be inspired enough to actually DO this.

  14. OK, I am going to be brave enough to admit that I just tried this out for my son using a dinosaur template and it turned out awful. Perhaps I used too much bleach, but it bled like crazy and the poor dinosaur…well, it looks more like a tumor now :( I'll try again with some diluted bleach and less of it I guess.

  15. Char @ Crap I've Made says:

Rose, I wouldn't recommend diluting the bleach. That'll just make you need more to get the same amount of bleaching.

It's harder on ribbed shirts. Were you using a ribbed tee?

  16. Nope, just regular Target tee. I am making another stencil to cover up the messed up one and paying more attention to pressing the edges and being a little more careful with the bleach. I'll let you know how it goes!

  17. Char @ Crap I've Made says:

    Good luck!

  18. An update! I made a stencil to cover up the messed up one, pressed the heck out of it and used *a lot* less bleach. And it worked perfectly!!! My son loves his new dinosaur shirt! Now I am off to target to pick up a black shirt for the pirate stencil! Thanks Char!!!!
