Since you asked so nicely…

I got several (OK…more than a few, less than a lot) emails asking about the monogram plate that was visible in the picture in this post.

Here’s a better view:

My friend Jami and I made them late one Friday night.  It may have even been Saturday morning at that point.  ;)

Here’s how the plate started out.

Jami picked them up at a thrift store for 75 cents.

We Mod Podged fabric around the edges.  The fabric bends around the contours of the plate more easily than paper does.  You don’t actually need Fabric Mod Podge to do this, regular works fine.

Then, we cut out a circle of paper the size of the flat part in the center of the plate and Mod Podged that down.

Then the same thing with a smaller circle.

And finally we printed out our monogram and cut it out with an Exacto knife and Mod Podged it in the center.  Don’t do it that way.  It takes way too long.  Print your monogram on your paper that you’re going to use for the smaller circle and then cut the circle around it.  Or use a Cricut.  Or rub on letters.  Or something.  Just don’t do it the way we did.

Jami also made one that says “Bon Apetit!” in the center.  I’m going to go harass her for a picture…stay tuned.

What a great idea. The use of fabric is so much better than paper, as it is usually more visual also. I loved the colour combinations you have used…fantastic!

  3. I love the colors! Once everything was stuck on, did you go over it with a topcoat of Mod Podge?

  4. It's very pretty. I love the colors you used together. Thanks for sharing the "how to".

  5. Very fun and fabulous. Thanks so much!

I did something similar for a Christmas present this past year. I used a clear glass plate and did fabric for the inside circle on the back and then laid another pattern over the larger part and mod podged it all down. You could paint a letter on the front then, or whatever. Worked beautifully.

  7. Hi. Just stopping by to leave a comment. I love the name of you blog, it is actually the reason I come over. I saw it on the New Friend Friday blog hop.

I LOVE this fabric…the blue dots..do you mind me asking where you got it from?

    Amy,

It's an Amy Butler fabric from her Love collection called Sunspots Turquoise. I bought it locally at a quilt shop called Material Girls.

So I tried to do this but I had to over lap my fabric so it doesn't look all smooth and in one piece as yours does. How did you do the polka dot material without cutting it into pieces?

  11. Char @ Crap I've Made says:

I just used one big piece of fabric. I cut out the center so there'd be less bulk…kind of like a donut. I'm not sure what else my "secret" would be…I really just smoothed and pulled and went slowly.

Does that help at all? LOL!

  12. Too cute!! I can’t wait to try and make one of these! We love your blog and are your newest followers!
