Jack Skellington Pillow

jack_skellington_pillow

If you’re of the Mormon persuasion, you know that this weekend was General Conference, aka church on TV.  For some reason, I listen better when I’m working on something.  This Nightmare Before Christmas inspired pillow was the perfect project!

I picked up a package of precut black and white 5” squares at Hobby Lobby.  I believe the full price was $5.99, but there’s ALWAYS a coupon/sale at HobLob, so you know I didn’t pay that much.  I used 16 of the 20 squares in the pack to make my pillow background (1/4” seams).

Then, I found a Jack Skellington image and used it to sketch my applique.  (Sorry, no pattern since it’s copyrighted.)  I used a heavy canvas fabric for the white part so that the prints wouldn’t show through.  I stitched the mouth with a tight zig zag.  (Applique basics here.)

I made a simple envelope back using some black and white striped fabric from some pirate costumes I made 4 or 5 years ago.  The finished pillow cover is 18”.

  1. Confession: I hate Halloween decorating. BUT, I love these pillows. These might be the only Halloween decor I’ve ever wanted to steal from someone’s house to put in my house. Lock your doors. ;)

  2. Eek! That is awesome!

  3. LOVE it! So stinkin’ cute!

  4. I would rock this pillow in my house year round.
    Seriously.
Don’t look…I’m stealing this idea STAT.

  5. Ummmm….this is so stinking awesome. I barely have words. Wait. The words are: these want to live at my house. The end.

  6. It’s a good thing I don’t live anywhere near Utah. Looks like there’d be a lineup at your door of people trying to steal this pillow! It’s great!!

  7. LOVE THESE! Would buy them from you, to use every year for our Halloween party. I’m not a crafty one when it comes to needle and thread.

  8. Love these! I made a yarn wreath this week. I’m still working on my Halloween decorations.

  9. My son would FLIP out for these. I love them too!!! Great job.

  11. I don’t care for Halloween since it’s all blood and gore these days, but I LOVE your Jack Skellington pillow. I am going to have to steal your idea. My 14 year old loves Jack Skellington stuff.

  12. I started some applique shirts for my boys and some Halloween frames…but alas didn’t finish. I can’t wait for when I can post on my new blog (under construction). Boo and her boys is up, but I’m changing names and adding my daughter! We are really excited!!

  13. Haha I love “the Mormon persuasion”. For some reason I was more productive this weekend than I have been in awhile, even when conference wasn’t on! When it wasn’t on I was spray painting and hot gluing and when it was on I was tracing and cutting. I got tons of projects done and a few more started!

  14. I had to work Saturday so I missed a good part of conference. Boo, Hiss Hiss. But I did get to watch Sunday. I am so going to copy your pillows….they are adorable!!

  15. That’s some pretty cute crap! I’m a fan of Jack. :)

  16. I am the same way… I worked on my halloween wreath while watching gen conference :) I love your pillows!

  23. Love, love, love the pillows. Going to HobLob on my lunch hour tomorrow !!! Did you make the other pillow too? If so where did you purchase the fabric. Thank you so much :)

  24. Me too. Always sit better too when my hands are busy. Love the pillow. Since we both have the same Target pillow…I think it would be wise for me to follow suit and make me a Jack pillow.

  26. Cute pillow. I wish we had a Hobby Lobby near my house. We made barrettes from left over ribbon and leather from old purses. The grey blue leather made very cute ones.

  27. Love it! One of my daughters loves, loves, loves that movie and collects artifacts from it. I think she is going to get a pillow from mom for Christmas. Thanks for the inspiration.

You asked if we made anything this weekend – I make something every week! This week I made a dragon costume for my 4 year old grandson. I haven’t posted it on my blog yet because he hasn’t tried it on yet but it will be posted next week, I hope. Other costumes and creations are posted though. feel free to check out my blog.
