My favorite idea I’ve had in quite some time…

A title like that’s got you waiting with baited breath, right?
Behold the new towel hangers for my kids’ bathroom!
Each kid is getting a towel with his or her initial or name or something on it. They’ll go here when not in use.
Want to make your own? Go to Home Depot or Lowe’s or whatever and head on over to plumbing. Find a spigot. I chose some that started out looking like this (minus the water droplet hanging mid air):
Now finded a threaded pipe flange (that’s the real name…I asked BC) the same size. Screw the spigot in, just to make sure it actually fits. Your flange is galvanized and doesn’t match your spigot? No big deal!

Head on over to paint and pick up a can of Rustoleum. I used this in Matte Nickel.
I gave the spigots and flanges (still giggling at both of those words) a couple of coats of spray paint and then mounted them directly to the wall. I hit a stud on the center one and used drywall anchors like these for the other two.
Now, does anybody have any suggestions as to what color I should paint the rest of the room?

So cute! I say paint it either a tan that can match anything, or one of the blues from the shower curtains, and keep the towels red.

  2. Spammon says:

Just for the hell of it, why not put some itsy bitsy spiders crawling up the water spout?

  3. Beverly says:

I like the idea of a tan wall with red towels–that would look fab! You are so creative!

  4. fangmommy says:

Super cute room. I would go with yellow. It would pop the yellow accent color in the shower curtain!

  5. Parker Family says:

That is so cute… I say yellow with really go with the theme. Like a sunshine yellow….

  6. Al, Wendy, Max, and Lil says:

Great idea!!! Really creative. I love it. As far as the color…I am a sucker for blues. You know I love color. It could be a brilliant shade just lighter than the blue already in there. That will take down the "Yellow, Red, Blue" and make it look less "themey". If you get my drift.

  7. so cute. totally saving this idea. it works perfectly for your Seuss themed bathroom.

  8. Valarie says:

I'm no help. I usually come to you with paint color decisions. If we were in our usual roles, I'd be asking you whether you thought the yellow or middle/lighter blue section from the shower curtain would be best.

    you're brilliant, btw.

  9. The Harding Hive says:

Perfect! I am no help when it comes to paing. In fact, I want YOU to come over and tell ME how to decorate.

  10. ~ Maranda ~ says:

I agree with yellow! I think it would really just bring the other colors to life, while staying true to the theme. You could even do yellow on most of the walls and paint one wall an accent color (the lighter color blue?)

Very very cool Idea with the water spigots/flanges things! lol

  11. Don't you have four kids??

  12. I LOVE IT!

YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW! Might as well go TOTALLY all out!

  13. What? I have 4 kids?

Bennett's towels match his room and are hung there. Plus, I don't think he could reach. You know, since the lazy butt STILL doesn't walk.

  14. Wendy P says:

I've seen large rectangular sponges used to make the wall look bricked. You could buy a rusty red paint and do that behind your spigots…

  15. Who knew plumbing fixtures could be so cute? That's a brilliant idea! It would be cute outside as a place to hang wet bathing suits and towels. And I love the other suggestion by commentor #2!

  16. Joni Walton says:

It's a good thing that Joseph wasn't there to help you hang them…or put three extra holes in the wall.

  17. I was thinking the same thing as Heidi in reference to you actually having 4 kids. Does this mean you'll be changing the bathroom theme/taking down the spigots w/in the next year or 2? :)
And as far as paint colors go, I'll ask this friend of mine. She's AWESOME at picking out paint colors. I still get compliments on my living room color.

  18. Holy Cute!
Go to home deopt and find our boyfriend and see what color he suggests.

  19. Liz (Loving Mom 2 Boys) says:

so cute!! I think the room would look fantastic in the same blue on the shower curtain!!

  20. fabulousfinishes says:

clever idea – love the holders… I agree, those words are goofy!

Lighter shade of blue – even leaning toward a aqua/turquoise – then drag a blue glaze over it with a wall brush – did that for a client and then recently in my kids bath – love it! (even though it is ripped apart this week due to toilet flood)

  21. sweetpea says:

    love it!

  22. Room to Inspire says:

    Great idea…I love it!

  23. Such a cute idea! This is perfect for a children's bathroom.

  24. Aqua blue or the color of a sandy beach. You are brilliant with the spigots.

Oh and my word verification word is "decized". I'll use it in a sentence. I decized what color you should use and I decized it should be sand.

  25. Love the spigots! Great idea. Your kids will LOVE it!

  26. Julie @ Joy's Hope says:

    best. idea. ever.
    that is all.

  27. Very neat! I like it! Much harder to pull out of the wall as well.
My kids will be getting personalized towels as one of their Christmas gifts this year.

  28. Absolutely adorable! Thinking I might have to do this in my boys' bathroom when I get around to decorating it, that is!

been working on my girls' bathroom – any ideas for a girls' bathroom using something unusual for the "hooks" to hold towels? Here's the shower curtain they chose (they are 8 and 9) and I got circle bath mats to go in front of each of their sinks as well as one at the shower – one is pink, one is green, one is turquoise.

You are super-creative – I don't know how you do it w/4 children – I have 5 and I told my husband last night "I have no original ideas" – sigh.

  29. FlybabyInMaine says:

Oh so freakin cute! We are remodeling our upstairs bathroom this summer… I know what our towel hooks will be! THANKS AGAIN
