My Master Bedroom

I’ve gotten some requests to see the rest of my house…a home tour of sorts. I can’t promise it’ll occur in a timely manner or even that I’ll get to every room, but I’ll see what I can do to give you a little peek every now and then.

And here’s my disclaimer: I don’t love my master bedroom. It’s not ME. Perhaps if I loved it I would have taken the time to move BC’s CPAP machine off of his bedside table? Winking smile

My master bedroom is large. It’s one of the main reasons we bought this house. In our old place you couldn’t even walk all the way around our queen bed.

I fell in love with the Farmhouse Canopy Bed from Pottery Barn

but I didn’t love the price (hint: well over $1600 with shipping).

Our bed came from The Wood Connection (a local unfinished furniture store) and is solid maple. We paid them to finish it for us and still came in under half price.

And, the other end…

Eventually we’ll get the outlet moved and the cords under control. It’s only been 7 years so far…

So what’s the point of this post?

I have no idea!

You asked and I like to encourage voyeurism?

Maybe you can make me love my bedroom?

Maybe this will motivate me to finally frame the TV and do something about the cords?

Maybe you learned that unfinished furniture stores are a great way to knock off Pottery Barn furniture for less?

See you tomorrow?

Open-mouthed smile

There's a reason people go on home tours–yeah, voyeurism. Gotta love it. Every time I post a pic from inside or outside of our house, my daughter goes beserk, convinced every crook in the county will show up to steal my crap.

One of the things we did in our new house (well, we've been here 16 years….) was to get rid of all the dressers–we only put crap on them, not in them. I put wire basket systems in all the closets instead. It has really really helped with the affliction known as "If there's a horizontal surface put something on it."

  2. Gorgeous! (And I like your bed much better than Pottery Barn's! The slight angle at the top is great!)

  3. Victoria at Party Puff says:

Wow, nice and large! (Mine sounds like the size of your old one…I totally relate). I can see why you're not in love though. When compared to your other rooms the proportions in this one are off from your decorating style. Maybe larger side tables would get some better balance at the bed end. A nice chandeliere in the tv area, some soft panels on the windows…You really should LOVE your bedroom :) Lots of great things to work with!

  4. I love the colors in the room!! And those double doors and moulding….I'm drooling!! ;)

What is it you don't like? I'm just curious.

Curiosity kind goes along with voyeurism (which I'm quite guilty of…don't leave your windows open and lights on at night…I will SO be peeking in your windows). LOL

I'll take your room! It's beautiful! Mine is set up like a studio apartment. It has a kitchen attached to it (I have two kitchens). So weird. How do you decorate with that? UGH. I will soo trade you.

Also, love the photo/painting on the wall! Very cool.

  6. good times in that room ;p

  7. nice pussy… willows.

by the end of this tour, everyone will know of your love for green walls. and IKEA. It's making me miss you. and IKEA.

I love your bedroom! It's so big and spacious! And I've always wanted a canopy bed. One day!

  9. Rebecca@This Present Life says:

Thanks for letting us take a peek inside your bedroom…even if you don't love it! I love the pussy willow picture. I so wanted to buy that same one but I passed on it. Not sure if they still have it, but I'm tempted to back and look again because yours looks so nice! And I am a big fan of the unpainted furniture stores myself! They're such a great way to get exactly what you want…for less! Who doesn't love that?

  10. The Other Me Is Sane says:

love your style. I'm a wantabe Pottery Barn shopper too. The cost is too much tho. Thanks for the tour.

  11. Love the sitting area. It has only been 7 years pace yourself.

  12. Jennifer V. says:

I love the colors and could totally see a large "family tree" painted on one wall with the branches extending out and family members' pictures hanging at the ends, or maybe making custom drapes to hang at the end of the room that would cover the plugs and cords for your electronics.

  13. Bolo heads says:

I think that you should use cabinets to frame in the whole TV wall, and you need bigger nightstands. Maybe one that will hide the crap machine. Also I think that you need new sconces ones that point up to show off your tall walls. That is just my never to be humble opion, and I think that is what Candice Olsen would do.

  14. Where'd you get the painting? I am in love with it and want it in MY room now. . .

  15. Sarah Maccarelli says:

I love your room! The color is so pretty. That bed looks so inviting.

  16. I know, I'm a sicko, but I read that 3rd to the last line as "Maybe you can make love in my bedroom?". I think you should change it to that. It's funny.

  17. All of the above! Lol.

  18. Dude, come to my apartment, see my ALL WHITE bedroom, my bed that is just mattress, box spring, and metal frame, because we are young and poor, the tiny-ness of the room, etc….maybe you'll learn to love your beautiful, bright, matching, spacious master bedroom!

  19. Lisa Marie Mary says:

Omigosh! That little nook above your bathroom – way too cool! I would have my husband (he's a contractor) support it so it was people-worthy, then build a ladder, put some lighting up there and a nice cozy cushion/mattress thing and have myself a cozy little reading nook!! Love the colors, too!
