One of those weeks

Do any of you get insane when you don’t sleep?

I do…like friggin’ CRAZY.

And I’ve lost a sleep over this here blog this week.  Who knew I cared so much, right?

But, I do.  And this whole WordPress switcheroo made me lose 4000 subscribers.  And I cried.  A lot.  And I was short with my kids.  And I was short with BC. And I cried some more.  And I drank A LOT of Diet Coke to combat the fact that I wasn’t sleeping.  (At one point during a conference call about Snap! I may have demanded that we have a soda fountain at the conference next year.)

All over a blog.

Yesterday, I threw my hands up in the air and walked away.  I went on a preschool field trip with my 2 littlest ones.

I got a little sunburn.

And I felt joyful.

So today we’re ditching preschool and having lunch with friends.

I’ll be back with some crap soon (Neighbor Jami’s window treatments and crib bedding are finished, I just need pictures), but this girl needs to recharge.

  1. Love you :)

  2. Do any of you get insane when you don’t sleep?

In a word…YES! I literally go bananas, too.

I think the fact that you’re invested in your blog speaks very highly of your dedication to your readers; being a reader and lover of all things ‘crap,’ I appreciate that!

Recharging is necessary – it prevents burn out and we do NOT want a blog burn out here.

Have a good couple of days with your boys. Mother’s Day is Sunday and that’s a great day to bring a little perspective to stuff. Feel better :)

  3. I’m sorry! I hope things clear up quickly for you. :)

  4. You have one of the best blogs out there, and I’d be willing to bet that the lost readers will come searching for you. :) I subscribe in google reader, and I still get your posts, and I didn’t have to update anything with the change.

  5. I’ve been insane for the past year from lack of sleep! I’m sorry things have been so hectic for you. You’re one of my favorite bloggers. I’m glad that you’ve recognized the need to recharge and that you’re doing just that. Have fun relaxing!

  6. Don’t worry about the lost followers. Think of it as a new beginning. You’ll be gaining new loyal followers anyway. :-)

Personally, I’m glad I do not have so many followers. I’d be stressed to the max! My blog is just for fun and to share the things I love. I don’t need nor stress. :-)

PS I’m following you via Google Reader. I wonder if you have more followers than you realize? The numbers do not really mean anything. At least, not for me. :-)

  7. I still love all your “crap”. I am still getting posts through my reader but I had to “follow” you again, I’m almost positive I was already a google follower…. I agree that it may take a bit of time but your readers will find you :)

  8. I definately go wacky with lack of sleep! Bare with it! Your blog is awesome :)

    Sarah @ thiscrazyblessedlife.blogspot.com

  9. I follow you in Google Reader and also didn’t have to change anything. I still get your posts. I’ve got a few of them more than once, which made me think I was having a serious case of deja vu! ha ha!

  10. Oh no! When we switched over that was a big fear but we came out okay. Seriously though in blogland you’ll make those up SO fast! Good for you for just getting out and getting a break. It’s so easy to become consumed by all things blog. I do it all the time. Get some sleep!

  11. Lack of sleep has been my constant companion for the past two months and I’m totally going crazy! Have a great break and don’t sweat the small stuff – it’ll all work out!
PS – I’m pretty sure I know where your field trip was. ;) I love that place!

  12. :( Hugs!
Are you sure you lost all of them? Maybe they’re not showing up for some funky reason. Like.. I have you in my blogger feed, but I’ve just manually added you with your URL, so maybe I don’t show as a subscriber. I don’t know how all that works though. :(

  13. BriBedell says:

I also follow Craftaholics Anonymous and she just switched to word press the same time you did. She said she lost 7000 followers but it all eventually worked out and the reappeared!

  14. OH girl–I would cry too. I would lose sleep too. And yes, I am INSANE when I don’t have enough sleep.

Don’t worry– everyone will be RIGHT back. I still get your feed and there was no blip at all when you switcheroo’d. Anyone else will find their way on home.

  15. Enjoy your “recharging”. Your blog is definitely worth seeking out! You are a bright spot in my day!

  16. I turn into an emotional basketcase when I don’t sleep. And unfortunately, anything less than 7 hours doesn’t count as sleep for me.

You made the right choice to take a break! I thought I was losing my mind the other day. I dumped out a pile of stickers and brought out a tub of crayons and just played with the kids. It’s amazing what that can do – – like you said, it inspires “joyful”.

Your followers will be back. They will wonder where you are and will find you. Enjoy your lunch!

  17. It looks like you have some five thousand plus followers, so you aren’t doing too badly, Compared to my 42. heh heh.
    love you
    ~a

  18. I’m still here and anyone you lost will definitely find their way back. I mean, how could they go without their weekly does of Char, right? Plus I got a fabulous overload of you in my reader TWICE this week, so I got to go through a bunch of posts I had actually missed. ;)

Go have lunch with your friends, enjoy your kids and come back to us when you are {slightly} more sane.

  19. Hi there! I’m a fairly new reader who has just been stalking you! :) This is my first comment!
I love Love LOVE your blog and wanted to let you know that I just subscribed to your emails to hopefully make you feel better! :) Did it help? Maybe a little? :)

  20. I never subscribed to anything new, I’m still getting the old feed. So perhaps its just a glitch of sorts and you didn’t lose anybody? I don’t know that 4000 people would get so up in arms about wordpress that they’d intentionally unsubscribe. I would have resubscribed if I had to, if it makes you feel better. But since I’m lazy I’m happy that I didn’t.

  21. Sounds like a tough week – but Wheeler Farm looks fun. Hope the kiddos enjoyed it. It’s one of our favorite spots to visit.

  22. I didn’t resubscribe as a follower because my reader automatically picked up the change and that is how I view blogs anyway. Did you really lose followers or are they just not showing up on the list? Either way, hope you get some sleep tonight. :)

  23. Ahhhh…what a sucky week. The blog looks great and I hope that a fair amount of sleep comes your way.

  24. Oh Char I am sorry about your subscribers! That is so sucky – It seems like everyone is making the switch and after I simply (or so I thought it would be) changed my URL and lost a ton of followers it makes me nervous to do anything else. If you want to recharge over a bowl of Coldstone – just hit me up! I’m your girl!

  25. You didn’t lose any followers! Your blog is too great to lose anyone! We come to you!

  26. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who freaked out and lost sleep about the switch. Aaron got my subscribers back after a couple of weeks. Have you got your yet??? I am glad you are taking a break to recharge :) Have fun with that! Love ya!

  27. Melatonin from GNC–melt under the tongue one– are GREAT for insomnia. Go get some.

I’m not sure what you mean by subscribers, but I have you on RSS and have had no problem. I did see that I am not a “follower” so I signed on to that just in case those numbers will make you feel better.

  28. Lori S. says:

Just thought I would mention to you that another blog I read (sorry, can’t remember which one!) recently made the switch over to Word Press as well. She had similar problems with lost subscribers, but it was only temporary. They appeared back a few days later. She did mention that she called the fine people at Word Press (a LOT) and said that they were very helpful in sorting out the transition over. It’s up and running fine now, but it took about 2 weeks to get it all sorted out! Hang in there!! I view your blog on Internext Explorer, and while there were a few times that your page wouldn’t load, it’s fine now. And I never saw the neon green links that so many people were apparently complaining about! Hang in there, it’ll get better!

  29. Char. That totally stinks! 4000 subscribers. I would be depressed. I hope they find their way back. I’m so sorry!

  30. Char – He can fix it! It happened to me too, but it is fixed now.

I still get your updates, and I didn’t have to re-subscribe.

It’s a feed burner thing. Things will look up, I promise!

  31. We ALL need to recharge. Good for you for going on the field trip and getting a sun burn. Probably your best. day. ever. in a long time. :)

  32. Well, you looked fantastic today. I forgot to tell you I really loved your bracelet. I’m sorry about the blog drama. I hope it all gets well soon, and that you can find an amazing dress for the Derby :)

  33. Sorry!! Hope you have a blast with your kiddos – that always makes me feel better.
(And I agree about the soda fountain. It’s a must.) haha. ;)

  34. I’m so sorry you are having a bad week. Your blog really does look fantastic!! I hope you feel better!

  35. Kristen says:

I Love your blog! No sleep makes me super cranky. Hope things simmer down soon!

  36. I am sorry you have been having a bad week. I hope things turn around for you soon. But I do have to say that if it gets a soda fountain at SNAP! then it might not be all that bad ;) And there is no such thing as thing as to much diet coke! The blog looks GREAT!!

  37. Awwww! Feel better :) This subscriber is still with you, which I know isn’t saying much but it is what I have to offer!

  38. Rebecca says:

I am sorry! What a total pain. I am having no problems getting updates to your blog through my Google Reader but when I checked on my blog to see if I was still following your blog, it wasn’t listed. I don’t get how I can be getting updates through Google Reader but not be a follower. Anyway, you now have one more follower who thought she had been following you all along!! Good luck!

  39. I just realized I’m not a follower, but I’m getting your feeds via google reader and I look forward to your feed every day. Maybe you should remind your readers to subscribe again. Maybe I lost my subscription in the move?

  40. I’m sorry you’ve lost subscribers lately. I just wanted to let you know, I’m a pretty new subscriber and I’m enjoying your blog. And don’t worry, you’ll get those subscribers back and even more! Don’t be discouraged! =)

  41. Their loss if they didn’t come find you! Your blog is “BEAST” (a phrase my boys use to describe pure awesomeness!). I am still getting your feed (through blogger)…but will make sure I am still “following” you!!!

  42. “build it and they will come” – your followers with find you – no doubt. My blog hopping time is precious and rare and your site is one I always check. Your honesty makes me laugh outloud – thank you for that! I am working on the hubby to let me come to SNAP!

  43. 4,000 is a big number, but what is a number Glad you took a break, took the kids, and got away from the blog world for awhile. I just started a blog and have one follower, my husband. I still think it of a way to c reflect on my life, keep my going and being creative and sharing life with loved ones. Isn’t that why we all start? I mean, 4,000….that is a huge number and you still have a huge following. Perspectives. I enjoy your blog, wherever you may be~
