Got 2 Minutes? Make A Bracelet!

measuring tape bracelet

I spotted these on Pinterest, but couldn’t find a tutorial (mostly just lots of links that didn’t go anywhere or were from somewhere in the UK and I was NOT paying international shipping for one Winking smile).

You know why there’s no tutorial?  Because even a monkey could make one.  Get some ribbon clamps (I picked mine up locally at Robert’s on 50% off day, so I think I paid $1 for enough for 3 bracelets) and a tape measure.

Cut a piece of tape measure to fit your wrist.  I did about 7”.  Put the clamps on the ends.

Wear it with dorky sewist (it’s better than sewer, remember?) pride!

  1. ohhh, I am thinking these would look really cute with vintage tape measures! I will have to keep my eye out and give that a try! Perhaps some of the older blue ones that are cloth. Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. SUCH a cute idea! Just today I made some homemade bath paints my kids absolutely adored…and it took under 5 minutes and only used stuff I already had on hand :) Here is the link if you’re interested:

Thanks again for the darling idea!!

  3. Love it, Char! So cute and clever!

  4. I’d totally wear this. Recently we put those scrapbook rhinestones on my 4-year-old’s sunglasses to glam them up. It was pretty fast (she did it) and really cute :) I’m worried, though, that my 4-year-old wanted bling on her glasses. What does that mean for my future??

  5. Super cute back-to-school idea and even a fab idea for teacher gifts. Steph and I might even be able to make these!

    • I didn’t think of this possibility, but you’re so right! Especially with the yellow measuring tape. And, like Char said, it’s so simple the kids could even help. What a great idea!

  6. Love it! Definitely going to pick up some ribbon clips next time I’m at a craft store (which, let’s face it, is nearly every other day…)

  7. I just saw a metal ruler bracelet and was instantly in love. i have been trying to figure out how to make one. But now I will just go down to the store and make one or two of these and call it good… or until I can get down to our shop and see if I can bend a metal ruler into submission :)

  8. Clever

  9. Great idea, love it!!

  10. I have not been able to find ribbon crimps ANYWHERE, not H obby Lobby or Michaels even. I”ve been looking for months!

  11. Totally linked you up on this one! I’ve been staring down that bracelet on pinterest, too, debating over whether I’d share it on my blog, because I’ve never used ribbon crimps and didn’t know if it’d be easy enough for the sort of folks that follow me. Now that I know how simple it is, I’m wondering what other funky things could be easily “braceletized”. I need a cheep gift for a 14 year old and it’d be awesome if I could figure out the perfect funky idea just in time!

  12. Oh! And we’re supposed to share a link to something quick and easy! Hair flowers! I made some of those trendy flower hair clips with my glue gun while my 2 year old colored a picture! I used a Hawaiian lei I got on clearance for the flower petals and put buttons in the center. I’m cranking them out to match every outfit I have!

  13. I’ve seen these on Pinterest and thought they looked cute! I didn’t realize how cheap they would be. I’ll have to pick up the supplies next time I’m at the craft store. :) As far as a simple project I’ve done lately, I really enjoyed making these ruffle slide-on dog collar embellishments (not to toot my own horn or anything):

Thanks for all the other links everyone’s shared! :)

  14. Holy crap these are cute! And I’m SOOO giving in to my sewist dorkness and making one. So there. :)

  15. Oh I like these! What a great idea for that tape measure that I accidentally cut with the rotary cutter! lol.

  16. What a cute idea. I will be making me and a couple of friends some of these!

  17. Love this idea as a teacher gift!

In honor of National Smores Day (Aug 10th) I got a little crafty and whipped up 52 smores owls for my twin boy’s preschool class and some of our neighbors. The kids really loved them.

    Here’s my tutorial:

  19. I made three of these this morning. It took me longer to buy the clamps (while my beautiful daughter threw a beautiful temper tantrum.) I am glad you blogged them because I had seen these on pinterest but had no idea what ribbon clamps were. ;)

  20. Think this would work with any heavier weight ribbon also! Or maybe Mod Podge some thinner ribbon, then put it together?? :)

  21. loll well this is great because you know they say woman cant measure! too cute…hey at least we will know what 8 inches “isn’t!”
