Spider Web Plate – Martha Stewart Glitter Paint

spider_web_plate

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked if I’d be interested in checking out the new Martha Stewart Crafts Decorative Paint Line, brought to you exclusively by Plaid Crafts.  And, because I’m smarter than I look, I said YES.

And shortly after that a box containing all of this (crappy cell phone picture alert)

photo (8)-1

showed up at my door.

Delightful, right???

You can find the entire line exclusively at Michael’s stores in the US and Canada starting NOW!

So, why do we need another line of craft paints?  Because this is the big daddy of all craft paint lines!  It works on all crafting surfaces including wood, metal, glass, ceramic, terra-cotta and fabric.  It is indoor/outdoor safe and dishwasher-safe on glass.  And, there are 160 paint colors in five finishes (Satin, High Gloss, Glitter, Pearl, Metallic).  All come in 2 oz. bottles and are non-toxic!

And the tools?  AMAZING.  The attachments all screw directly on to your paint bottle and come with a separate bottle for cleaning.  That spongy roller thing?  Genius.  Let’s get on with my project…

Disclaimer: Because I adore Martha’s glitter (totally have the variety pack), I went straight for the glitter paints. The glitter paint is not “paint” like you’re thinking. It’s kind of clear with glitter suspended in it.  I found this paint is best used with the Fine Top Tips attachments or as an accent as opposed to being brushed on your entire project.

Supplies:

Plate
Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Glitter Acrylic Paint (I used Obsidian)
Martha Stewart Crafts Fine Top Tips (pictured below)

The tips come in 3 different sizes.  The large size is the one recommended for the glitter paint.  They appear pretty close to the same size, so look carefully before you put one on.

They screw directly onto your paint bottle…fabulous, right?

D7K_6646

Mark a point on your plate for the center of the web.  I wanted mine off center.

D7K_6629

Take your squeeze bottle and draw a line from that point to the edge of your plate.

D7K_6647

Do the same thing 9 more times or so.

D7K_6649

Now fill in the cross webs (that’s totally a technical term).

And a couple more rows of those…

Now set it aside and let it dry.  It will darken up as it dries.

I cut off the ring part of a spider ring and stuck that on the plate as well.

You’ll be seeing more of Martha’s paints ‘round these parts for sure.  Maybe even next week.  Winking smile

  17. Love Martha but so disappointed with the glitter paint. Back story, Hallmark channel is no longer offered in my area so I knew nothing about the paint line before heading to the store. Sooo I get to Michael’s and see the beautiful display showing the sheen’s and types of the paints and I was wowed by the glitter but doubtful. If anyone has seen the display you know that the glitter paint display looks “glittered” and nothing like the actual paint. I bought a bunch with a painting in mind and got home and it was sooo not what I thought it would be. Love the other paints in the line but the glitter is grossly misrepresented at the store and a huge fail in my book by Martha. I think the display killed it for me.

    • I AGREE! i have just tried the glitter paint today on glass, thinking it would provide an opaque film that would look great with a candle hidden behind it. It showed all of my brush strokes and the color was hardly even there. Maybe this is a project that needs a lot of layers. I will try again. I was so exited about this line and I hope that maybe on another try it will live up to the high expectations that were displayed in the store.

I experienced the same frustration when I tried to brush it on. I think this product is best used as an accent with the squeeze tips as opposed to covering a large surface with a brush.

    • Shari Rice says:

I did the same thing with the glitter pant only I got only 2 colors to start. I wanted to paint wooden thimbles with it. I did get the purple saffire to work after a fashion but the bubble gum really did cover well. So I got two more the other day and it’s not looking good. I really loved the look one the sample at the store too. Darn, back to square one.

  18. this looks awesome! Anything to do with spiders.. I’m there :)

  19. Love this! Such a clever use of the paint.

  20. Love the projects, love the paints. You lucky gal for getting them to try for free. I think I might need to make this for my son… he’ll go bananas.

    • Nick,You are right on!! It was amazing that after all the clean-up after Charley, many still thhuogt that Captive was cut in half as stated at least once that I personally heard on The Weather Channel and even once on one of our local channels!. After sending e-mails asking them to retract and correct, it was never addressed. Here we sit with absolutely PRISTINE water and beaches and declining visitors in fear of oil yet no large media voices are willing to say our coast is clear. I guess good news does not attract viewers. We’ve addressed the issue on our own site and also gave links to NOAA explaining the Gulf loop current. It’s going to take a village, county and state to get this message out.Larry Hahn

    • That kind of thinking shows you’re on top of your game

  21. I’m loving the green color on the shutters!! What color is that??

    • Char @ Crap I've Made says:

It’s a Rustoleum spray paint called Key Lime and then I sanded and glazed with Ralph Lauren glaze in Tobacco.

  22. Wow, really wish I’d read this post before I started a project with the glitter paint. I didn’t realize that it goes on sort of like glitter nail polish for wood. If I’d read this before, I would have used a base coat or just used the glitter paint for accents. Love your project though.

  23. Hi there, everything is going fine here and ofcourse every one is sharing information, that’s actually fine, keep up writing.
