I used these directions. Fabric is a curtain panel from Ikea and leftovers from my ironing board cover. It fits both my crappy old Singer machine and my Babylock, so it’d probably fit most others as well. Now I think I need one for my serger. And I’m pretty sure I need to paint my stools and chair red. This organizing thing is getting out of control.

The Jenny Bag and the winners
I made this bag for a friend. She picked the fabrics. I think they’re Alexander Henry, but I bought them a very long time ago for a dress for Macy so I’m not quite sure.
Tutorial and pattern here. It’s a little small (keep in mind I pack around a diaper bag called “MotherShip” for day to day use and take my opinion on that with a grain of salt). I also didn’t like how the straps were attached last. It’s a little sloppy for my liking. If I made it again, I’d attach them when I sewed the lining to the outer fabric.
Just for fun, a picture of Macy in the dress. 2 years is a long time in kid years.
The winners are….
Ambrosia (totally typed your actual name the first time), who guessed correctly when she said “Did you find it tangled around the rotating brush rod on your vacuum cleaner after it stopped sucking stuff up/rotating while you vacuumed your latest craft mess?” Indeed I did.
and
Jane, who said “BC’s belly button?”. However, I’m not flying to Phoenix to make her dinner. Sorry, Janer.
Pretty sure you both already have my email, so let me know what you want for your prizes!
SO much better
This was my ironing board cover this morning:
This is my ironing board now:
Tutorials can be found here, here, and here. I did a wide 3 thread stitch on my serger and then threaded the string from the old cover through the stitching with a doll maker’s needle. I also added 2 thin layers of cotton batting. Fabric is Heather Bailey’s Pop Garden.
And, the contest is over at midnight. Stay tuned for winners in the morning!
Up to my ears in lounge pants
OK, so they’re actually pajama bottoms, but “lounge pants” sounds fancier (and you all know how fancy we are). Fancy. Capital F. I let each of the kids pick his or her own fabric…and I kept my mouth shut. These two belong to Campbell. Wait ’til you see what Keller picked out. Did I mention that I kept my mouth shut? Did I mention it probably took Keller 2 hours to make his selections? BC and the two littlest dudes went back to the car and fell asleep. THAT is how long it took. The list of things that are less painful than going to the fabric store with children includes “dipping a paper cut in lemon juice” and “donating a kidney”.
Pattern is this. I love their stuff. My favorite part is that you just print out whatever sizes you need on 3 or 4 pieces of regular paper. You can junk (and/or recycle) the paper when you’re done and not clutter up your sewing room.
Edited to add: This is what was going on while I typed up this post.
Pencil bag
My sister came over today for help making a couple of laundry bags. We got that done and she mentioned she also needed something to keep track of her pencils in her purse. We found the fabric in my stash and loosely based the bag on this tutorial.
I made a second bag for Macy and put the zipper in so it zips the other direction, which feels better to me.
Must. Make. Quilt.
In the last few weeks I’ve made 6 slings and 5 nursing covers for friends. You’d think that would have satisfied my need to sew, but it really hasn’t. I’ve become OBSESSED with making a quilt. It’s all I think about. I came across this tutorial, and decided to try it out. The best part? It uses scraps. BC will be delighted that I won’t be buying any more fabric….in theory.
Slipcover for IKEA chair
My mom and I ripped apart a plain white slipcover and used it as a pattern for this one. It took us most of 2 days on account of serious OCD tendencies and a need to have the checks lined up perfectly. Would I do it again? Maybe. And don’t look too closely….it still needs to be hemmed.
