Raingutter bookshelves

This is another old project from cleaning off the memory card.

I found the idea originally in Family Fun magazine, directions here.

It’s SUPER easy. It’s been 3 years or so, but I’m pretty sure my sister (yes, the one who set my cake on fire) and I whipped the ones in the top picture out by ourselves in under an hour.

I loved them so much that I put more up in my playroom a month or two later. Great way to use the wasted space behind the door, right?

Kari over at UCreate featured some full wall length ones recently, too.

We have a giant roll of paper on the opposite wall in my play room. I’m thinking about putting a long one under it to hold pencils and crayons. You could use one to hold chalk and eraser on a chalkboard painted wall, too.

  1. I really like these–very creative! And I'm loving the quilt on the bed too!

Great way to foster the love of reading!

  3. porter family says:

are the ones you put up years ago still in use? have they held up kids? cause i have just never thought they sounded like a long term solution. i can picture my kids hanging from them and breaking them.

  4. love this! i love ways of storing kids' books like that – to show the covers. but most solutions are $$.

    very cool.

  5. Yeah…same ones. I used self drilling wall anchors to mount mine (as opposed to finding studs). That pink room has belonged to my boys for the last 1.5 years and they're still going strong.

  6. Looks great! I've definitely been meaning to do this myself!

Oh I LOVE this idea!!! I'm totally going to do this when we decorate the nursery. (Wink, wink!)

  8. Kari @ Ucreate says:

Ooooh…I love these shorter versions! I have a children's book addiction and this is such a fun way to display my favorites!!

  9. Kristine Robinson says:

Whoa, so cool! I will probably even try these!

  10. CLEVER!!!!

  11. Oh, how cute! Perfect for behind the door. I am going to try this out! Thank you for sharing!

  12. If I were a little boy… say about 3-7 yrs old, would I be able to climb these without tearing holes in the wall?

  13. My little boys aged 3-7 may or may not have climbed them (if they did, I wasn't looking). I'd say it depends on if you mount them to studs and/or what kind of anchors you use.

  14. Yeah…..I definitely need to do this.

  15. Wow! So cute, and useful. I'll have to make these sometime for that wall behind the bed…. *ponders*
