A neighbor called and asked if I’d maker her an Alice in Wonderland costume. She’d looked online and most of them were, uh, a *little* on the trashy side. OK, most of them were A LOT on the trashy side. I did a little searching and found this pattern.
It comes in both kids’ and women’s sizes. It was quite simple and a quick and easy sew. The only thing I did not enjoy (and I’m guessing it’s the same on the Dorothy version) is that the “bib” portion of the apron is hooked to the dress and is not actually part of the apron. If I were to make it again, I’d leave the dress plain and find an apron pattern somewhere else or make something up. I also thought it was weird (and expensive) to use ribbon folded in half for the apron tie instead of fabric.

Last year I made the Alice dress for my 5 year old from this pattern, and I used it again for the Dorothy dress for my seven year old. It is a fairly quick pattern to sew, but I hate the fact that the bib is attached to the bodice. I didn't use ribbon for the apron ties, I just cut and folded a bit of the fabric dot the ties instead like I would on any other apron. The other thing I really don't like about this pattern is the way to attach the contrast band around the sleeve. Its a bit confusing, and involves hand sewing
If I were to do it again, I would probably just make the contrast with a wide bias tape. On the Dorothy version, the band is the same color as the blouse, and I just sewed it on by machine and am adding a ribbon trip to dress it up a bit more. Overall, the pattern turns out cute, but it not one of my favorite to sew, having done it twice now! 
Last year one of my coworkers (a very generous soul) sewed the pink Glinda costume for my daughter – it tuned out sooo perfect!

I hate it when pattern instructions make things harder, more expensive, or just odder than they need to be. Had this happen to the vampire cape I made this year. I feel your pain!

I've made the Alice and Glinda costumes from this pattern for two different plays my daughter was in. You are so right, the apron on the Alice dress is kind of silly. But sometimes you blindly follow a pattern without thinking about the end result. My daughter had a little trouble keeping the apron skirt in place. I'd either make it separate, or attach the apron to the skirt if I ever made this again.
I know this post is a bit late, but I'm trying to make this dress for my daughter who is 3 I've done the bodice which came out ok but the sleeves?? I'm pretty much new at sewing anything this complicated any one have simple instructions for me to finish the dress? Please

I just cut this and it seems that the back skirt is about twice as full as the front did anyone notice this The from skirt is cut on a fold and in size three this makes it about 36 inches wide(before gathering). The back skirt has a seam so u cut 2. This makes the back over 70 inches. This seems like too much for a size three. The diagram where it shows the pieces also had the skirt back really wide
I am about to make the Dorothy dress and found the size of the back skirt odd it is twice the size of the front. I was wondering if I cut 1 instead of 2 will it work I am not very experienced and don’t know what to do.Please can anyone help. Thanks Glenys
I’m making this now, and I’m on my second go at the bodice top because the notches don’t match up…not a well-designed pattern.
