Valentine’s Day Canvas Art

So, if you follow along on Facebook, you may remember me saying that I was pretty sure I hated something I was working on last week. This is it.

DSC_0848

I started with a 16 X 20 canvas (2 for $7.99) and some chipboard letters ($1.77 each).

I gave the canvas a coat of the same aqua paint I used to paint my piano (Watery from Sherwin Williams) and then laid out the letters.

I made some pencil marks (which were impossible to photograph)so that I could get them back in the same place.

I painted my letters using this table runner from Target as the inspiration for my color palette.

Then, I just hot glued them to the canvas.

It’s grown on me…A LOT. And, it’s way cuter with the bunting, which I’ll post about shortly. (Tomorrow, I swear. The post is done and scheduled already!)

Do you decorate for Valentine’s? Do you use the traditional red and pink or do you branch out a bit?

I really like this, Char, and I'm not much of a Valentine's Day decorator. I think I'm going to have to make one of these, though. Love the color combo.

  2. Robin (rsislandcrafts) says:

I really like it also. It doesn't scream Valentine's Day so it can stay up anytime of the year.

  3. Becky says:

    I LOVE those colors!!!

  4. Wendy says:

I'm with Gwen, I don't do a lot of Valentine's decorating but THIS, I LIKE! I love it! It's wonderful, adorable, cute, beautiful!!!! Really, I'm gushing, but sincere!

  41. Sarah says:

I just found this after following a link from Curbly and I’m going to make it for the bedroom the hubby and I just remodeled using the colors we picked for the room. I spent $0.99 for the letters at Hobby Lobby, $0.67 a tube for the colors (3 total) and $4.56 for a pack of two canvases at Wal-mart. Cheap wall art that doesn’t look cheap. A great idea, Char.

  42. jess says:

This is awesome! What colors did you use for the letters? Thanks!

  43. Jackie says:

Sadly, we do not have Hobby Lobbys here in California :( What would you suggest using instead?

  44. Alison Smith says:

CHAR, I have wanted to make this since I saw it last year on you blog. I finally got it done, and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!! Thanks for sharing your great idea’s. http://alidawnscrafts.blogspot.com/2012/02/valentines-day.html
