Resolving, 2011 edition

Remember how last year I resolved to “buy more lamps”?

I think that went pretty well. I stepped out of my comfort zone A LOT last year.

I did a project for a magazine. (And an interview, where they were nice enough to leave out the parts that made me sound like a fool.)

I was on TV and I didn’t even curse!

I went to a couple of blog conferences and admitted to myself that I am indeed an actual “blogger”.

Here’s where I tell you all that 2010 kind of sucked. In fact, I’d say it was one of the top 2 worst/most stressful years for me in recent memory. It was right up there with 2003 (when we had a baby, moved twice, my dad died, I broke my knee cap and was housebound for 6 weeks…). Every 7th year is bad for us. You’ll probably want to keep your distance in 2017, just sayin’…

So, what’s my goal in 2011?

FIND THE JOY

I talked about learning to find the joy in my Mother’s Day post last year and I think it’s time for me to take a refresher course.

Dee Dee asked me what I wanted to accomplish in 2011 for her one question interview series. Here’s my response:

I want to visit Omaha.
I want to say NO more often.
I want to say YES more often.
I want to yell less and laugh more.
I want to DO more and worry less.
I want to take more naps.
And, I want to stop buying diapers for the first time since 2000.

What are you resolving?

  1. I'm resolving to be more resolute.

  2. I'd love to stop buying diapers as well. It is nice to hear a bit of honesty when it comes to real life.

  4. Marianne, aka Ranger Anna says:

Last year's resolution went pretty well so I'm sticking with that: Use my re-useable shopping bags more. Pretty good at grocery, not so good other places–like I go to "other places" a lot. . . . Best wishes for a new year with new joys!

  5. Kristyn @ Good Gravy Crafts says:

I just posted my goals for the year on my site, I used the oh so fabulous Subway Art as my inspiration.

    Happy New Year!!

Come to Omaha! We're pretty cool I guess. Come for baseball's College World Series.
Come for our amazing zoo. Really, it's top notch. http://www.omahazoo.com.

  7. Audrey Ayers says:

I want to finish the projects already begun, and only then begin new ones. (I broke it today though, when I made a valentine's day banner…)

  8. craftytammie says:

i'm with you sister. diapers since 2004 for me, but since s. is only 4 months i have awhile still. :)

  9. Beth @ Sand To Pearl says:

Woo Hoo! Omaha! The zoo is fantastic! (not to mention the awesome temple and the little visitor's center)
Congratulations on not having to buy diapers! I'm making up a bunch of boxer shorts so I can get rid of diapers in our house too!

  10. The Turleys says:

Buy less and do more! Not that I can't buy things, but I want to focus on creating memories through experiences and not crap that I purchase.

  11. Aimee - Choose To Be Better says:

I'm doing the thing where I focus on a word all year long and try to live by that word. My word that I chose is AWESOME. Oh yeah. ;-) My friends were choosing words like "LISTEN" and "PEACE" and "LOVE" and "WISDOM" and "THRIFT". Not me…AWESOME works just fine. ;-)

  12. I like your list! This year, I hope to enjoy more… Whether it's my kids, my home, my crafts (that I screw up all too often), I just need to quit the negativity, and find some joy:) That's my goal!

  13. Michelle@Somedaycrafts says:

I wish you to be diaper-free soon! I think you should add "getting and giving a hug to someone besides my family everyday." That would be way out of your comfort (and mine):0

  14. stephjacobson says:

Come to Omaha! My resolution is to be more organized–and I mean it this year.

  15. HA! I'm resolving all the same things you are (minus the diapers…haven't needed them since 1999) AND to stop taking all the crap I get handed after doing the 'right' thing. Sick to death of that!!!! I'm gonna start handing it right back.

Oops, sorry for the rant. :/

    Happy 2011?….we'll see.

  16. House of Smiths says:

Your kids are SO freakin' cute!
    That's all…
    ~Shelley

  17. I can relate! The end of 2010 was pretty stressful for us too. I'm looking forward to less stress in 2011. I made several resolutions, but I also need to be more disciplined about our schedule and not allow us to be overscheduled. That can take the joy out of anything!

Semalee @ Nailing Jello to a Tree

  18. I want to take more naps but work during naptime lol.
And I live in Omaha so we should do lunch or something if you come! We can take your kids to the zoo and both discuss Veronica Matthews (I think you are the blogger who knows my friend from LA) and crafting and all that jazz. :)
Oh…and I just today decided the same thing about diapers, but my start date is 2003.

  19. amy smart says:

I'm sorry that 2010 was so crazy. At least you can count meeting me as one of the higher points of 2010. ;) Oh, and a bunch of other much cooler things. Here's hoping that 2011 is a little more mundane and that you can find many more great PB finds with all that money you'll be saving by not buying diapers.

    Your kids are adorable.

  20. I just found your blog and I love it. Love.
I have already used two of your tutorials and couldn't be happier. ;D
PS. I think that the no diapers is one of those goals we all hope for. But…I have to admit now that I don't have any in diapers I really want another one. Heh heh.

  21. jenpetersen says:

I'm with you on the diapers!

  22. The Harding Hive says:

I'm still disappointed that you didn't curse on live TV. Maybe this year.
